INTENDED AUDIENCE
This activity was developed for endocrinologists, urologists, primary care physicians, cardiologists, specialists, and healthcare providers interested in the management and treatment of hypogonadism and HIV.

STATEMENT OF NEED
The goal of this activity is to provide a more complete understanding of the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of HIV as related to hypogonadism; describe the current understanding of HIV; and discuss how treating hypogonadism may improve both conditions and lead to improved overall health for some of these patients.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Patient outcomes could be measurably improved if physicians were better able to…

  1. Realize that men who are HIV positive are at increased risk for hypogonadism
  2. Recognize that increased clinical vigilance for comorbid HIV and hypogonadism may lead to improved healthcare outcomes
  3. Diagnose and evaluate symptoms of hypogonadism in HIV-infected men
  4. Identify patients with concomitant HIV and hypogonadism who may benefit from testosterone therapy
