Sharon J. Parish, MD


Dr. Sharon Parish is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Director of Psychosocial and Behavioral Medicine Training in the Department of Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York. Dr. Parish received her medical degree from Albany Medical College in New York, and completed her residency in Internal Medicine and Primary Care at the George Washington University Medical Center, Washington, DC, and a fellowship in Psychosocial and Behavioral Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine and Bellevue Hospital. As an academic general internist, Dr. Parish's mission is to bring cutting-edge educational interventions and research innovations to the interface of medicine and the behavioral sciences, with a special interest in the training and practice of sexual medicine. Employing her expertise in the biopsychosocial model and communication skills, she has designed many educational programs in male and female sexual dysfunction for undergraduate, postgraduate, and graduate medical education and across multiple disciplines. She has authored numerous publications on sexual dysfunction and sexual health education. She is President Elect of the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH), a member of the ISSWSH Board of Directors, and chairman of the ISSWSH Education Committee. She is Vice Chairman of the International Society of Sexual Medicine (ISSM) of International Consultation on Sexual Medicine (Madrid, 2015) and a member of the ISSM Scientific Program, Standards, and Publications Committees. Dr. Parish is the CME editor of the Journal of Sexual Medicine (JSM) and an associate editor of Sexual Medicine Reviews (SMR) and serves on the Editorial Boards of both journals.
